The implementation of the Gloucestershire Nature Map relies on the availability of high quality baseline data. It also requires the involvement of local conservation practitioners and key decision makers to apply the SNA approach in a consistent manner. In the long term, the 50-year vision can only be truly achieved through supporting local communities and individuals, enabling them to take an active lead in securing a healthy natural environment for their area. Bringing in new partners from outside the biodiversity sector, such as those from the health and business sector is also essential for the delivery of the vision, as is making sustainable land and water management a reality.
A top priority is to ensure that our remaining important wildlife areas - SSSIs, Local Wildlife Sites, non-designated areas of priority habitat, etc, - are not eroded any further and that they achieve and maintain favourable condition. This is essential if the wildlife they support is to be available to spread out into the restored landscapes.
Strategic objectives
Our strategic objectives provide the underpinning principles which set out how the 50-year vision will be delivered.
